About the Southington Housing Authority

At the Southington Housing Authority (SHA), we’re more than housing providers — we’re a community partner dedicated to dignity, stability, and opportunity for Southington’s elderly and disabled residents.

Established in 1948,, The Authority operates under state and federal guidelines, ensuring compliance with housing regulations while maintaining a strong focus on community engagement and sustainability. Through responsible management and dedicated leadership, SHA continues to fulfill our simple yet vital mission setting the standard for excellence across Connecticut.

Our Mission

To provide and maintain safe, decent and affordable, housing that promotes independence, stability, and community well-being for Southington’s low and moderate income elderly and disabled residents.

What We Do

Affordable Housing

We manage a portfolio of four (4) housing communities comprised of 180 efficiency and one-bedroom apartments serving over 200 residents. Each apartment is designed to promote comfort, safety, and independence in a respectful and inclusive environment. Our communities provide safe, affordable housing for elderly and disabled individuals throughout Southington. SHA does not manage any other properties in Southington

Resident Support

The Southington Housing Authority (SHA) actively collaborates with various local organizations and outreach programs, including The Southington Community Center, Bread for Life, The Calendar House, Southington Rotary, the Southington Police Dept and the Southington Fire Dept., as well as various state and local government agencies. Our dedicated staff, with the Resident Services Coordinator as the primary point of contact for support, plays a key role in facilitating communication, coordinating resources, and fostering collaboration with these partners. Through these ongoing efforts, SHA enhances the quality of life for our residents by providing access to supportive services, community outreach initiatives, recreational activities, social programs, and volunteer opportunities. These partnerships ensure residents have the tools and connections they need to thrive in a supportive, caring community.

Property Management & Maintenance

We take great pride in delivering responsive 24/7 maintenance services and proactive property management that keep our communities safe, functional, and welcoming. Our skilled maintenance team performs regular preventive inspections, handles repairs promptly, and ensures that every unit and common area meets our high standards for cleanliness, safety, and accessibility.

In addition to addressing resident concerns quickly, we prioritize long-term property improvements — from infrastructure upgrades to energy efficiency measures — to maintain the quality and sustainability of our housing. SHA’s maintenance philosophy is rooted in respect, reliability, and pride of workmanship, ensuring that our residents live in well-cared-for homes they can be proud of.
